In this music video we looked at the different camera angles, mise en scene, characters used and the narrative in relation to the lyrics. It starts off with an establishing pan shot which allows us to see the setting in which the storyline is set. The director uses a varied amount of long shots and close ups in order to emphasise the reaction of the characters to the setting that they are in. The camera is held on a tripod which allows the picture to be stable. Tilts are used on this as there is a lot of movement by the characters, therefore the shot is neat without an unsteady hand. There is a point of view shot where we can see out of the main character’s eyes to view a laptop. This is used to relate the lyrics to the narrative as she looks at the photos ‘online’.
Flashbacks are used a significant amount as there is repetition of the lyrics ‘last Friday night’. This editing is used to again relate the lyrics to the narrative. Editing cuts are used as the character is walking down the stairs to speed up the video which is a good effect to use. This can capture the audience’s attention. There is further editing in the cuts of another character’s imagination. Even though this does not relate to the lyrics, it is done for comical effect. In the extended version of the video, it has been created as a short story, again for humour purposes and to establish the narrative. These parts include no music, but acting and speech instead.
